Intro
Girija Ravishankar is a classically trained Carnatic vocalist who has performed at prestigious venues and sabhas around the world. She belongs to the Shishya Parampara (musical lineage) of Sadhguru Thyagaraja. Her artistic journey includes cross-genre collaborations with musicians from diverse traditions, including Hindustani classical, Jazz, and Arabic music. Beyond her performing career, she is a dedicated music educator who actively trains young musicians.
Academically trained in computational neuroscience, she is currently a data science leader at a major bank in Zurich.


Music Training
Girija was introduced to Carnatic classical music at the age of three by her mother, Vidushi Sharada Ravishankar. She further pursued her musical training under the guidance of the esteemed Vidushi Dr. R. N. Sreelatha, Principal and Professor of Carnatic Music at the College of Fine Arts, Mysore. For the past sixteen years, she has been under the advanced tutelage of Padma Shri awardee and Sangeeta Kala Acharya, Vidwan Rudrapatnam N. Thyagarajan, elder of the illustrious Rudrapatnam Brothers.
Performances
After debuting as a concert artist at the age of thirteen, she has performed in numerous Sabhas in India, the US, Germany and Switzerland. Recent noteworthy concerts include those at Madhuradhwani – Arkay Convention Center, Chennai; the Hindu temple, Los Angeles; Ganabharati, Mysuru; Museum Rietberg, Zürich; Nateschwara Theater, Baden.

AWARDS
Since her early school days, Girija has participated in many state and national level competitions and won innumerable prizes. At the age of 20, she won a Tambura as the first prize in a Ragam Tanam Pallavi competition. She has passed Vidwath (proficiency level – equivalent to M.A in music ) exam in Carnatic vocal music with high distinction.
